West Lothian Council Heritage Services are holding a History and Heritage Fair on Saturday 10th May 2014
Venue will be Linlithgow Academy between 10am and 4.30pm.
The day will include a family history workshop and the following programme of talks by expert historians:
10am Stalls and Displays open.
10am - 12pm Family History Workshop by West Lothian Family History Society - free introductory sessions to start your family reserch.
10.15 am – 11.15am Land of Brave Men: Scotland goes to war, August 1914 – Trevor Royle, Military Historian
11.30am – 12.30pm Scotland for the visitor: why so popular? – Dr Alastair Durie, University of Stirling
2pm – 3pm Irish Immigration – Dr David Ritchie, University of Edinburgh
2pm - 3pm Workshop on Old Handwriting - Margaret McBryde, National Records of Scotland - Learn how to decipher the handwriting in old documents.
3.15pm-4.15pm From Curling to the Commonwealth Games: Scottish sport on and off the park - John Burnett, former Principal Curator at National Museums Scotland
Throughout the day there will also be a wide range of national and local heritage groups providing displays and not forgetting the stop for refreshments - tea, coffee and homebaking will be available all day until 2.30pm. A soup and sandwich lunch will also be available to purchase between 12pm and 2pm.
There is an entry fee of £2.00 per person and children under 16 go free.
Talks are included in the entry charge BUT to ensure entry into any of the talks or workshop you should pre-book your place.
