Colonel Hackett's Regiment

Colonel Hackett's Regiment

Postby RogerH399 » Sat Apr 14, 2012 3:09 pm

At the time of his marriage in November 1753, John Brash from Abercorn was a soldier in 'Collonel Hackett's Regiment'. Does anyone have any information about this regiment?

Quick search on British new paper archives site for "Colonel Hackett " brings up a few articles (156) but the earliest is 1845 .
Colonel Hackett's Regiment without " " brings up from 1749 will have a better look next week when I have more time.

- there is one here but date is much later http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Bernard_Hackett

Good luck

Found Hackett 3 mentioned in the late 1700's none of which were much more than the name. not sure if info is helpful.

Lieutenant John Hackett in 1789 (Caledonian Mercury Wed 03 Aug 1785 Midlothian, Scotland )
Vice ensign James Hackett in 1776 (Caledonian Mercury Mon 14 Oct 1776 Midlothian, Scotland )
James Hackett retired in 1778 (Caledonian Mercury Wed 08 July 1778 Midlothian, Scotland )

Roger,
Colonel Peter Halkett commanded the 44th Foot {East Essex} Regiment. They served in North America from about 1755 till after 1783. It's fair to say that all of your man's service was probably in North America {which also included Canada at that time}.

Regards,

Allan
