The memorial commemorates 4 men. The first two are from the Great War:-
Private ANGUS ROBERTSON RAMAGE served in the 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards, with service number 7637. He died on the 26th October, 1914, and was 26 years old at the time. He was born in East Lothian, and was the son of Isabella Ramage and the late Andrew RamageAngus doesn’t have a known grave, and is mentioned on the Ypres {Menin Gate} Memorial to the missing, in Belgium. {Along with 54,404 others}.
Private HENRY DICKSON served with the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards, with service number 14816. He died on 31st July, 1917, and is also mentioned on the Ypres {Menin Gate} Memorial to the missing, in Belgium. Henry was 23 years old when he died, and was the son of George Dickson of East Lodge, the Inch, Craigmillar, Edinburgh.
The next two are from the Second World War:-
Lance Corporal GEORGE BALLANTYNE served with No. 43 Royal Marines Commando, with service number PO/X114916. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Ballantyne, and husband of Annie McNeil Fotheringham, of Bo’ness. George died on 31st January, 1945, at the age of 24. He is buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar [formerly Burma].
Lieutenant ALEXANDER JOHN RALPH served with the Royal Army Service Corps, with service number 311649. He was the son of John and Charlotte Ralph of Tobermory. He was 26 years old when he died on 16th May, 1945. Alexander is buried in Tobermory Cemetery, Kilninian and Kilmore, Isle of Mull.
