Sheehan Bo'ness

Sheehan Bo'ness

Postby Josephine494 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:04 pm

I have sucessfully found the death entries for John and Ann Sheehan from the OPR 1847. However when they died they had 2 small sons who seem to have completely disapeared
in both England and Scotland.
Charles Corrie bpt 14/5/1844
Alfred Ernest born 23/10/1846

I would like to know if there was an orphanage or poor house in Bo'ness and if there are any records out there.

Also John Sheehan was Comptroller of Customs at time of death, is there a customs house in Bo'ness, or a house that would have gone with the job.

Any information would be great.

Thank you
Josephine

Josephine,
Alfred and Charles are in the 1851 Census living with the family of Robert White, master shoemaker, at East Main Street, Bo'ness. They are shown as Charles and Alfred Scheen {at least in the Ancestry transcript}. They do not appear to be related to Robert White. They may be related to his wife in some way.

Regards,

Allan

Allan, you are a star. Thank you. You sometimes get too close to the subject, I think I must have tried every other version of the name
I am very pleased that they didn't die at the same time.

Kind regards Josephine

Josephine
Just joined the society and picked up this request. There was a custom house in Bo'ness ( building is still standing)

Suggest you search the Bo'ness history website for further info

Coincidentally a lawyer name Albert Sheenan (born in Bo'ness) has recently retired from the Scottish Courts. -Google Sherriff Albert Shenan
