West Lothian 1851 Census on CD
The Society has transcribed all records from the 1851 Census for parishes which correspond to the boundaries of the present-day county of West Lothian and made this data available on CD.
The CD includes a viewer to for searching the data. The opening screen of the viewer looks like this:
The top right area is used to define the search. At least one search term must be entered, and wild-cards (*) can be used. The search fields are not case sensitive i.e. searching on, for example, MCDONALD will yield the same results as search for McDonald.
The bottom third shows the search results and the top left area gives full information about the individual selected in the search results.
The next screen shows the result of a wildcarded search. We have used m*donald and the search has found McDonald and MacDonald:
