Re: South African Census
Hello Frances, The results of the 1911 South Africa Census are held in The National Archives in London. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=1911%20SOUTH%20AFRICA%20CENSUS&_p=1900&_hb=tna They have not been digitised. I thought that Familysearch might have transcribed them,...

Re: Johnston in Bathgate
Hello Jeanette,
That sounds like a good result. My wife used to work with a solicitor who was 'W.S.' He had to pass some difficult exams to qualify, so Writersto the Signet are certainly not your average solicitor.
Regards,
Allan

There may only be one, but if there are more then their records will show where and when they were m...

You would need to check his birth certificate, hopefully it will give parents names. This should prove which Henry Mowbray i...

Re: midwives
Not many women had a full time occupation of Midwife. More usually it was a case of an experienced woman, who had already had children, helping others. In 1841 in ‘West Lothian’ there was a population of almost 27,000 {according to Ancestry’s 1841 census}. There were only 6 women who gave their occu...
