Here's a wee mystery that I need help with! What exactly is my paternal line and what’s maternal?
Theory 1: Are all of my dad’s ancestors paternal and my mother’s maternal?
Theory 2: If the parents have a daughter who’s my ancestor does that mean they are maternal, if they have a son, are they paternal, regardless of whether they are my father's or my mother's ancestors?
I've been following Theory 2 throughout my research but I want to be clear on this so any help would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks
Diana
maternal or paternal?
Re: maternal or paternal?
When I posted this query I must have been having yet another senior moment! Obviously, all of my father's line is "paternal" and all of my mother's is "maternal"!
Please don't confuse me and tell me I'm wrong now that I've got it sorted out in my mind!

Re: maternal or paternal?
Diana,
I think you're right. But of course, your father and mother would also have their own paternal and maternal lines. It all depends who you are starting with.

Allan

Don't confuse me, Allan - at my age it's very easily done! As you can see from my initial confusion at the start of this post.
