Post by GraceS568 »

Hi everyone,
I have been told that my grandmother Jane Lightbody (born Jane Emslie,Meldrum,Sommerville,Paris) was the postmistress for
East Calder. Where would I look for details please.
Thanks

Hi Grace

Rhona kindly forward this to the volunteers.
Do you know roughly what years your gran worked for the Post Office? II am assuming she was married at the time. This will help the volunteers either to find some info or at the least point you in the right direction.

Jan,
Thank you for the reply.I don't know when my granny would have been working. She was born on the 9thJuly 1895. Married my grandad Robert
Lightbody on the 31st Jan 1918 in Kirknewton. My grandad died when he was only 45.They had 6 children including my mum Grace. I wonder if perhaps
she worked after my grandad died but just don't know.
Thank you for taking the time to help,it is much appreciated. I live in Lincoln so am not able to get to any meetings.
Grace.

Hi Grace

There is a book about in the History Library about post office in West Lothian but unfortunately West Calder was not included. I did fine a photo dared pre the first world war.

If you could email the help email address I will send it to you
WLFHShelp@outlook.com

Having her date of birth is a great help - will have a look at news papers and see if there is info on post offices employees anywhere.

Regards
Jan

Thanks Jan,
Something to get my teeth into. You mentioned that West Calder isn't mentioned but it is only East Calder I need.
My great granny Grace Paris was I understand the local midwife.
Grace. :D
